Detriot Design Festival

My Role: Creative Architect

In celebration of Detroit’s designation as a UNESCO city of design, the Detroit Design Festival throws a huge bash at Eastern Market for creatives to come together and share their work. Think food and cocktails, body paint, interactive sculptures, disruptive performances, and more.

I concepted and built an interactive installation for the event. Using strategically stacked wooden dowel rods, I created an anamorphic typography sculpture. When viewed from any angle, it looked like an array of random obstacles. But when viewed from one perfect perspective, the word was clear. The best part? It was a putt putt course. Just in case you wanted to play.

While its reputation may be rocky for those who don’t know the city, Detroit is a beautiful melting pot of people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and walks of life. This installation challenged players to gain a new perspective of the city by using 3D anamorphic typography to highlight that many pieces can unite to make the Detroit great.

The Results:

  • My design was hand selected by Doner’s Chief Creative Officer and won a concept competition at Doner Detroit .
